Slumberville Forum?
#1
It seems the slumberville forum has been out of action for a few weeks. Anyone know anything?

Slumberville went through a series of tragic errors. we updated the entire forum from http to https wanting to offer more security and thAT LITERALLY BROKE THE Board.
Most people cant see it unless you type the new address in full.
so what i did was remove the slumberville website and made the url automatically redirect to the forum so if you go to:
https://www.slumberville.com/
it should take you to the completed forum.
things are still being hashed out but its about 85% complete.

If I cant get the board back to 100% I will have the slumbverville url point to here and just give up control of the chloroforum

Hmmm, the provided link sends me to this very forum and when I click on the 'Visit Chloroforum' lik I get a "404 - not found page".
May I ask if the provisionally or makeshift site that was provided by a link called "Dextor´s links" in the Choroforum still exists - and if - could someone provide a link to it?

Does the Chloroforum site still exists and I just can´t find it? Or did it die due to the technical issues?

Every information his highly appreciated.

Thank you very much for all your efforts.

I have to say I'm pretty disgusted with the way the folks at the slumberville forum have handled this. We have had one sloppy explanation from them about whats happened but their issue would have been easy enough to sort out, their hoster no doubt would have helped them or they could ask someone within the community for help?

When they took the forum owner over from the previous owners in Jan 2013, they became guardians of the community. They made a huge post about how they were going to be fair, to look after the place and to develop it. Surely they owe it to those that made that place the success it was, they owe it to the community to keep it going, to make it work?

Instead, it seems, to me, they have simply abandoned the community and set their forum to divert to the clipstore, so screw the community, but come look at our store.

Maybe I'm the only one annoyed at this

I was rather sad than annoyed. I started being an active member when Wavy was running the forum but after he left I always had that feeling that the new owners just wanted to promote their commercial stuff and did not really care about the community.

Moreover when I changed my e-mail at the slumberville-user-cp a year ago and had to be reactivated by an admin. This was never done even I tried to contact the new owners by the slumberville-mails as well as by their commercial mail and twitter.

Nevertheless now I am happy that I found this alternative and hope that this forum will grow  Tongue

I don't think Levi and Evangeline owed us, i.e. the community, to keep the site up and running. Nothing is permanent, life happens, and priorities and capabilities change.  We might not like it, selfishly, but it is what it is.

With that said, they could have done a better job communicating their intentions to either shut things down or communicate when they decided they decided to longer make an effort to fix things once the site did go down. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes, they always seemed rather sensitive towards perceived negative community feedback, so maybe this was just a cleaner, easier out for them.

I understand that, I disagree though. When Wavy gave or sold the forum, he did so with the explicit promise that the new owners would be guardians of the small but lively community he had created. I know he had his reservations regards member input and so on but he felt he had made the right choice and the new owners promised to take care of things.

I guess what frustrates me the most is that communities like ours take time and effort to build. They need a 'buy in' from those that love the genre and are willing to spend their time adding to it, contributing, participating. Sure the commercial sites get a look in but my guess is that most of us were there for mainstream stuff.

I just feel badly let down that they could just kill that. This place isn't taking off by the looks of it, all due respects to those that set it up, so I guess that's it, time to pull the curtain down.

I'm sorry I'm so downhearted at this. Kudos to those trying to keep the light on

Well the good new is that I found lots and lots of the old stories from there in my archives the other day so I'll go back and start posting here what I can. My apologies to the original authors, I did not save their names, but their works can continue to be enjoyed. Smile
